About Us

Reorganizing and integrating the functions of the former Institute for Environmental Protection, Pollution Monitoring Center, and Global Environment Knowledge Center, the Kawasaki Environment Research Institute opened on February 1, 2013, within the Life Science and Environment Research Center (LiSE) located in the Tonomachi International Strategic Zone.
In order to not only monitor, survey, and research ways of further improving local environments and preventing environmental pollution from occurring but also respond appropriately to environmental problems, which are becoming increasingly diverse and complex, and as a base for conducting comprehensive studies and research related to broader environmental areas, the Kawasaki Environment Research Institute not only has constructed a system of fixed-term researchers that utilizes the knowledge and networks of specialist researchers, but also is undertaking research and efforts in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and other related organizations, both domestic and international, as well as local Kawasaki enterprises with excellent environmental technology.
